AR/VR Hackathon

Imisi 3D Creation Lab in collaboration with African Technopreneurs and various partners present the Annual AR/VR Hackathon, to be hosted from 4 - 6 December.

The hackathon will focus on the rapidly evolving technologies of Augmented, Virtual and Mixed Reality.

Apart from technological advancements the hackathon encourages design, creation, and problem solving.

The theme for this year is Africa insight - our future in XR which will encompass education, healthcare, tourism, climate and gaming.

Those who are interested in art, graphics, 3D modelling, film, education, sound design, game design, or business should kindly register on http://arvrafrica.com because this is definitely for you.

This year one of the challenges is for participants to build an XR solution that works to combat the problem of violence against women as personal safety is of the essence and is a worldwide concern, in particular gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

The two-day AR/VR Africa Hackathon grand finale will hold in 10 African countries namely, Nigeria, South Africa, Mozambique, Egypt, Kenya, Cameroon, Tunisia, Ghana, Rwanda and Senegal.

The 2020 ARVR Africa Hackathon is divided into two stages. The first stage, the online stage, consists of learning opportunities and challenges and can be perused in the attached link: http://bit.ly/arvrhackchallenge1

All registered participants are given the opportunity to learn about different XR technology via curated learning content, mentorship sessions, workshops and masterclasses.

The aforementioned challenges give participants the opportunity to put acquired knowledge into practice in order to build solutions for real problems.

All the challenges sponsored by organisations will run for a fixed period, and are judged by hand-selected industry experts.

The online challenges are independent of the second stage grand finale and give participants the opportunity to test their solution-building skills on road to the grand finale.

This year’s competition consists of prizes ranging from a total of R34 000 prize money which will be split among 1st (R17 000), 2nd (R10200) and 3rd (R6800) positions as described.

In addition, 2 exceptional hackers will be rewarded Unite Europe event tickets while being exposed to a continent wide community of AR/VR Africa Enthusiasts, experts and Investors.

The Hackathon is an event where developers/coders, designers, strategists, and enthusiasts come together to work on project ideas and build solutions for the near and exciting future.

Registration ran from of 1 August 2020 until 8 November, and in the next stage participants will be admitted to the AR/VR Africa Discord platform where they're given access to the online learning materials.
